Butcher Billy’s latest series of ‘Post Punk / New Wave Super Friends’ is out, and it’s a cracker! Things are really hotting up for Billy lately - if you hadn’t heard of him yet, that’s about to change. He’s a top-notch designer-slash-illustrator based in Brazil, who we interviewed here on Springleap not too long ago. Billy’s really fond of mashing up icons - his ‘We Are Batman’ saw him reskin musicians and actors in a Batman mask, his ‘Tiny Taxi Driver’ turned the De Niro character into a tiny Disney / Pixar parody, and with his latest series some of the greatest musicians of the 1980s are getting the royal makeover treatment! Quoting the influence of comic books and the music of his youth, Billy’s newest works reference the lyrics of each featured musician, whilst giving them the trademark BB treatment in the grainy spot colour print style of old-school DC and Marvel prints. The result? Ian Kevin Curtis as Batman! Steven Patrick Morrissey as Superman! William Michael Albert Broad as Aquaman! And that’s not all - check out Butcher Billy’s Behance for the full series, and more - there’s loads to see, including his ‘8-Bit Smiths Project’, which mashes famous classic Nintendo and Sega games with lyrics from some of The Smiths’ biggest hits. Nuts for mashups, or just plain nuts? However you look at it, Billy’s riding this one all the way to the beach!
