Craft. Classic style. Modern vintage. These are the qualities associated with Sedgwick’s Old Brown. It’s a taste that immediately warms you and reminds you that in these fast times we live in, there’ll always be a place for old-fashioned quality. Have you got the skills to create character illustrations that will be printed on Sedgwicks Old Brown samplers? You’re just the creative we need for this challenge – there’s R30 000 up for grabs, and your work could be printed onto 15 000 sought-after collectible ‘Share The Warmth’ samplers, with a link to your online portfolio. Sound good? Read on! What kind of designs are we looking for? Firstly - please note: though we’ve hosted our many T-shirt design challenges here at Springleap, this isn’t one of them. In this challenge, we’re looking for two character illustrations from you that bring the concept of ‘Share The Warmth’ to life, in a modern vintage style while being cool, friendly and engaging. These characters will be printed onto a Sedgwick’s Old Brown sampler, and all characters need to somehow tie into the brand. For instance, Sir James Sedgwick was the captain of a ship, so you can include some Naval, Nautical and Mythical characters. You can also include Craftsmen who created the different elements that brought Sedgwick’s Old Brown together, or even the personalities of the people who enjoy drinking Sedgwick’s within different environments. Don’t be limited by our direction, but make sure that there is a relevant connection with the brand. Need inspiration? - check out the mood board pics on this page (or see all the mood board images in the Design Guide, which you can download from the contest tab on our Submit page). - read this post for info & themes associated with Sedgwick’s Old Brown HEADS UP: You now have an extra two weeks to share the warmth - the deadline is now FRIDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER! Design Brief: > You need to illustrate or design two interesting characters. Only one character will be printed per wrapper, but up to two of yours might be used. Two characters need to be provided and they can be related/ similar > Each character needs to be provided with a name, on the template > The Sedgwick’s logo’ needs to be somehow incorporated (the actual font and style does not need to be followed, although this is the preference), however it can be recreated if so desired and can be incorporated anyhow you feel suits your character best > Sedgwick’s is a drink that is enjoyed in South African winters as it provides warmth and so the characters need to somehow embody or portray this > The payoff line for the brand is ‘Share the Warmth’ but this is optional to be used > You must provide at least one URL link to an online portfolio, and these handles: #ShareTheWarmth @SedgwicksOB. These must be incorporated into the layout, but not be a headline position > The brand cannot be associated with anything negative or that may bring it into disrepute and therefore your characters cannot in anyway be rude, nude, lewd etc… > Sedgwick’s can only be drunk by over 18’s, so designs submitted need to reflect this (not be targeted or portray any image that is relevant to anyone under this age). > As this contest isn’t for a T-shirt design but for a sampler sleeve, designs should be placed on the template for your Super Preview file, and the others should be a close up (thumbnail), detail (artwork preview) and portrait. See the Design Pack for a 100% size template to work on. > Create your design with the template below in mind - just a reminder: this is NOT a T-shirt contest: Need more info? Need a template to work off? It’s all in the Design Guide pdf included in the Design Pack you need to download from our Submit page (which you can access by clicking the green ‘Submit Designs’ button below.) Prizes: 1st - R10 000 2nd - R4 000 8 x runners-up: R2 000 AND all 10 winning designs will each be printed onto 15,000 collectible samplers (along with a link to an online portfolio) and distributed at events around the country - all adding up to a whole lot of great exposure!
